Player Denials of Daily Star on Sunday Quotes

So far at least two players have come out and directly denied comments attributed to them by the Daily Star Sunday.

David Villa had this to say:

"I've never talked about the future of Fernando Torres, not with a English newspaper or any journalist."

he was complaining about this Daily Star on Sunday story: TORRES FEELS LET DOWN BY LIVERPOOL

Also, according to Sky Sports pundit and respected Spanish journalist Guillem Balague,

"Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has strenuously denied making comments attributed to him in an interview in this Sunday`s edition of The Daily Star. I have been in contact with Pique and he also assures me that he did not even give an interview to the journalist in question."

This is the story in question: GERARD PIQUE: WAYNE ROONEY WILL WIN IT FOR MAN UTD NEXT SEASON and you can read Balague's comment on his website here:
Pique denies Interview and Torres quotes.

The Pique story appeared under David Hyde's byline so either the Daily Star Sunday uses two sports writers who are in the habit of fabricating quotes or Hyde is actually a pseudonym for Fairthorne.

Either way Fairthorne appears to have based at least one of his 37 Daily Star on Sunday stories on an interview which never actually took place.
